sunflowers

This year, in a new house, at the last minute I decided to grow a sunflower border in my front garden bed. This bed is what we see when we come from the driveway to the front door. This is the door we use to get in and out of the house every time, so I decided to grow a border of Teddy Bear sunflowers, especially for the boys. Last Fall I planted Tulips and it was a hit with the kids, my husband and the neighbors, I will post a pic below. It sparked smiles each time we walked in and out of the house, so I will use this space again with the same intention, to make people smile. How amazing could be after a hard day at work or at school, be greeted with these beautiful flowers. I read that Teddy bear sunflowers are very popular with kids, as they are so puffy and cheerful. Per the website I bought these seeds from, this is a “dwarf” variety, and will grow 8-12″ tall. Teddy Bear sunflowers is a branching variety that will host 3-5″ sunny, shaggy blooms per plant. It will be a beautiful show and I know the boys will love it.

Now, here is a question for you: what project in the house or garden can you make this year with the sole intention of making others smile? It doesn’t have to be a project, it can be as simple as displaying a beautiful door mat.  The point is to make things and select things for your home with a deeper intention other than the functional one, if possible.

I will post updates of this project along the growing season, so stay tune. Talk to you soon!
