Tomato

I was watering my tomatoes and noticed that one of my tomato plants, my Pineapple heirloom tomato, had some tomatoes that started to turn black from the bottom. I noticed that out of the only three tomatoes that this plant had, there was one that was fine, and two of them were turning black. The tomatoes were still green and little. I also noticed, that only one out of my 8 tomato plants had this issue going on.

So, how do I stop my tomatoes from turning black! I did some research and found that this is called “bottom end rot”. It is not a disease, bacteria or fungus. I found that this is caused by calcium deficiency; not that there is not enough calcium in the soil, but that for some reason the plant is unable to absorb it due to too much water or too little water. The good news is that the plant is fine and this can be fixed by giving the plants “regular”, even water, and being more mindful on when and how much water they need, if needed.
